Easzira's Story of Hope
In 2018, Easzira, a mother of two young children, found herself facing many challenges. She was caring for her 2-year-old daughter, Kennedy, alone while her 7 year-old son, Dwayne, was living with his father in Indianapolis. Lacking a support system and unable to keep up with her finances, Easzira and Kennedy became homeless. While trying to keep her head above water and care for her daughter, Easzira received the news that she was pregnant with her third child.
In August 2019, Easzira gave birth to another son, Zion. She was able to move in with her grandmother who could help care for her two children; however, the situation quickly proved to be too stressful for her grandmother. Easzira was asked to move out and she once again found herself homeless with her toddler and newborn. She had no option other than to jump from home to home, and couch to couch, staying with whomever agreed to let them stay. Read more of Easzira's story...

A JOYOUS EASTER!
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come. The old has gone, the new is here!” 2 Corinthians 5:17
This Easter season we have been celebrating all of the new life at The O’Connor House, but we’ve also been reflecting on the opportunity to have a new life in Christ through his resurrection. Our residents celebrated Easter Sunday with a church service followed by an egg-hunt in our backyard, and plenty of outdoor time. What a beautiful and blessed day it was!

Staff Spotlight: Patti Burns
What’s your favorite part of working at The O’Connor House?
One of my favorite things about working at The O'Connor House is the wonderful staff. I have volunteered and worked here for 3-4 years. This is a group of strong faith-based, caring staff. I believe we are respected and cared for from the board down. We are all unique in our own personalities and skill sets and everyone respects that and we all work together for the common cause of loving and caring for our residents. Such a blessing!
What is one lesson or something you have learned from working at The O'Connor House?
Something I have learned is what it takes to work with residents of our population; Many times, lots of patience and understanding of what they have gone through and where they have come from. I have appreciated the opportunities to learn through offerings from The O'Connor House through conferences and seminars.
What’s a fun fact about you?
I love to organize to relieve stress. During Covid, I have made it through, partly because I have been able to sort and organize thousands of pieces of clothing and home items at The O'Connor House and Grace Thrift Store.
