Director of Development

Location: Carmel, Indiana
Title: Director of Development
Type: Fundraising
Terms: Part-Time (Hours will vary week to week.  Averaging 20 hours a week.)

Overview:  The Director of Development provides leadership and management of the direction, planning, and execution of fundraising and development related activities for the home.

This will include, but is not limited to, major gift fundraising, special events, grant writing, annual giving, corporate giving, and the development of donor base, volunteer base, and supporters.


Minimum qualifications:
Candidates must be willing to develop a commitment to the mission of The O’Connor House.
Bachelor’s degree
Five years of progressively responsible fundraising experience, including three years of major gift fundraising experience with demonstrated success in activities to coordinate, attract, and close major gift funding support for an institution including face-to-face solicitation of gifts of $10,000 or more. 
Demonstrated success and evidence of ability to plan and execute a fundraising event.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Demonstrated supervision of staff or volunteers with leadership, management, and administrative skills that motivate and build support and a network.
Strong communication skills including ability to write and speak persuasively about the home.
Ability to adhere to accepted practices of donor and home confidentiality.
Basic working computer skills with knowledge of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint with the ability to learn quickly and use other miscellaneous programs including fundraising software.
Willingness to work evenings and weekends and must have a valid driver’s license.


Roles and Responsibilities:
Develop and manage a comprehensive, diversified and integrated fund development program, including annual giving, major gifts, foundation and corporate giving, special events, grant writing, future capital campaign and endowment fund.
Develop and propose strategies for solicitation of major gifts, including: determining ongoing relationships with prospect/donor; recommending specific purpose and level of gift; identifying those to be involved in cultivation and subsequent solicitation; assuring that solicitations are carried out.
Lead the identification, cultivation and personal solicitation of top-level gifts, and support volunteers and Board of Director in these efforts.
Co-ordinate an effective program for recognition, involvement and stewardship of major and special gifts donors.
Works with Volunteer coordinator using volunteers where applicable developing the volunteer base into further support for the home and increasing base with recruitment of new volunteers.
Takes direction from the President of the Board and works closely with and reports to Board of Directors, developing strategies to ensure increasing levels of philanthropic support.
Work with Treasurer to develop the annual Development revenue budget projections.
Coordinate tracking and record keeping systems for donors and donor prospects.
Manage all communication with donorbase, including but not limited too, thank you letters, pledge updates, end of the year tax statements, etc.
Perform other related duties, as required.
